The Benefits of Owning Cockapoo Dogs

When looking for a dog to own, many prospective owners choose Cockapoos very various reasons. Cockapoos have been known in the United States since around 1950. Cockapoo dogs have a reputation of being highly trainable and very smart. They are very outgoing, curious, happy little dogs that would live well with a one person owner or a family that has small children. With a moderate energy level, Cockapoos do well living in an apartment or a house with a yard, but are not meant to be outside dogs. Another reason that people want to own Cockapoos is that they have a pretty long life span. On average, they live anywhere from 14-18 years, but some have been known to live well into their 20′s. This is good news to any Cockapoo lover. They can enjoy many years with their beloved pet.

Cockapoo dogs have a dense coat that is usually wavy or curly. It can be black, white, buff, cream, apricot, or any of mixture of these colors. Cockapoos can come in red and chocolate as well and are considered to be special colors. Their coat does not tend to shed very much, thus making them an ideal dog for a family who suffers from allergies or a dislike for dog hair around their home.

As for the size of Cockapoo dogs, there are three distinctions in the size of this breed. The size distinctions are based on the height of the bog rather than the weight. A “Toy Cockapoo” is 10″ or less at shoulder height and is usualyl under 12 pounds. The “Mini Cockapoo” is between 11″-14″ at shoulder and range between 12-20 pounds as an adult. The “Standard Cockapoo” is 15″ or taller in height and as a rule are generally over 20 pounds.

Cockapoo dogs are the hybrid of mixing a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle together when breeding. Because they are not a purebred, they usually do not have the ailments that are most common to purebreds. This is also another benefit for Cockapoo owners. In general, the Cockapoo is a healthy and happy dog that usually does not require extreme veterinarian care.

As you can see, Cockapoos have many benefits of ownership. In addition to their loving, happy disposition that can brighten anyone’s day, they are a pretty low maintenance dog to own and will be your companion for many years to come.
